Second Life

Ever, Jane for PC is an original MMORPG in which we enter the world of rural Britain as seen in novels written by Jane Austen. The game is a debut project of an independent 3 Turn Productions.

Mechanics

Ever, Jane takes us to Great Britain during Regency era (1811-1820). The players become a part of the upper classes, trying to improve their standing among other citizens and fight for their place in the society. Instead of classic attributes as seen in typical MMORPGs, each character is described by a number of personality traits such as happiness, duty, or kindness. These attributes affect interpersonal contacts, which are the mainstay of the game. Combat has been replaced with a number of socially viable actions, such as playing instruments, spreading rumors, or sending fake letters. The fans of such actions should be warned – a player known for his investigative skills might manage to discover the source of slander and use the opportunity to catch the opponent red-handed.

The inhabitants of the Tyrehampton (the village which serves as the setting and the background to the game) are often invited to various balls and extravagant dinners that offer an opportunity to display social skills, propriety, and surprisingly, caution – most circles value decorum and modesty. The guests have to dress accordingly to the custom, which also accounts for the arrival (on foot or by coach) and measure the effectiveness and decency of the dances, interactions, and conversations. If we’ve chosen to host an event, our duties include measuring the reception of sent invites – the invitees may respond positively by making a sign of friendship, or refuse by displaying animosity.

Nevertheless, the game manages to avoid being repetitive and boring thanks to a number of varying factors – the guests turn to their own, unique tasks as well as become a part of families whose members have to respect their individual arrangements. It should be mentioned that Ever, Jane offers various pastimes such as hunting and fishing for male characters and knitting and piano for female players. These actions can serve to increase the growth of secondary skills of each character.

Technical Aspects

Unfortunately, the visuals of Ever, Jane are one of the downsides of the project – the environment and the character models are of low quality, even when compared to other MMORPG titles. However, it should be mentioned that we are looking at an independent production with limited budget that was established thanks to the support of crowdfunding websites.
