Europa Universalis: Rome - Vae Victis Description
Europa Universalis: Rome – Vae Victis for PC is the first add-on to Europa Universalis: Rome, a commended strategy game released in April 2008. This expansion requires the base game to function. Paradox Interactive is the developer and the distributor of the add-on.
Mechanics
As the title suggests, the base version of the game takes place during the birth of the Roman Empire (280 B.C. – 27 B.C.). Our task is to lead one of the available factions, and lead your nation as best as you can – taking care of culture, infrastructure, religion, diplomacy, and military.
Vae Victis introduces a slew of completely new solutions, at the same time developing some of the already known mechanisms and ideas. Even bigger emphasis was placed on famous personas, which have an influence on many of our actions – each of these has his own personality and party affiliation. The game introduces a new aspect of internal politics – the Senate, where we need to legitimize our actions, and introduce useful laws. We will need to make sure of Senate’s favor, and sometimes complete the missions given to us by senators. Another novelty are the monarchies and tribes, which received their own courts, full of traitorous flatterers and heirs that are not always honest.
Technical Aspects
Among technical changes introduced by this add-on, we can find improved AI of our military forces and reorganized interface, which is much more transparent, but still allowing for easy access to information. The visuals haven’t been changed – once again, the action takes place on a stylized three-dimensional map of provinces.
