An expansion for the 2013’s grand strategy game, Europa Universalis IV. The developers introduced a number of additional tools that allow the players to manage their nation and influence its further development and fate. One of the most noteworthy elements is the possibility of increasing influence in the Merchant Republic by establishing trading posts and using the factions’ internal conflicts in the course of the new election events.

Europa Universalis IV: Res Publica is the expansion for Europa Universalis IV. Both were developed by Paradox Interactive. The expansion requires the original game to work.

Res Publica offers additional tools to rule over nations and influence their development, as well as new means to maintain or destabilize order in countries.

Thanks to the expansion, we may increase our influences in the Merchant Republic by creating trade posts, as well as by exploiting the infighting between the Danish factions in the form of new election events. They focus on the conflict between the supporters of four-year’s elections and the traditionalists who prefer cadences for life. There is also the possibility of introducing a new system in the form of republican dictatorship where we are forced to choose between increasing our own power and maintaining the tradition.

Moreover, the players get to support heirs in the elective monarchies and additional options to spend administrative, military and diplomatic points. New system of factions is also interesting news in which we may increase the influence of aristocracy, merchants and guilds; each option offers different bonuses. Of course, all these news are complemented by a new set of historical events.

Europa Universalis IV: Res Publica is a small expansion, apparently more modest than Wealth of Nations and Conquest of Paradise. However, it is cheaper and can be an interesting choice for those players who want to enrich these particular aspects of gameplay.
