Europa Universalis IV: Origins

Europa Universalis 4: Origins is the next expansion for the popular 2013 strategy game Europa Universalis IV. It is not a standalone expansion, which means that the basic version of the game is required to play. The DLC was developed by Paradox Tinto studio.

Mechanics

It belongs to the category of add-ons referred to as Immersion Packs. Such releases focus on expanding aspects of the game concerning a particular country or group of countries. In the case of EU4: Origins, the authors have prepared elements enriching the gameplay for the African nation. This was achieved by introducing new mission trees revolving around the ambitions of rulers and nations from this continent, as well as expanding elements related to Judaism.

After installing the DLC, new missions can be found in Mali, Songhai, Congo, Ethiopia, Ajuran Empire, Kilwa Sultanate and Kingdom of Mutapa, among others. In addition, the Jolof, Mossi, Hausa, Oyo and Adal tribes have received additional choices within the already existing missions.

The DLC also offers new missions for minor powers in central, eastern and western Africa and the Horn of Africa, as well as new state privileges for many nations and religions.

Europa Universalis IV Origins also introduces the Ethiopian Jews known as the Beta Israel into the game, along with related events. In addition, Jewish nations can choose from nine distinct religious-national bonuses thanks to the DLC.

Technical aspects

The add-on offers the same level of performance as the base version of the game. However, Origins brings some new features to EU4 in the form of four additional army graphics for the Congo, Great Lakes, South Africa and Bantu nations, as well as new animations for Coptic monks and fetish missionaries.

There are also 24 minutes of additional music tracks. Half of these are inspired by the culture of West Africa and the other half by East Africa.
