Europa Universalis IV: Mare Nostrum Description
More Nostrum is the eighth major DLC for the 2013’s Europa Universalis IV, a grand strategy game for PC. Both the expansion and the vanilla game, which is required to run the former, were developed by Paradox Interactive, the creators of all previous installments of the series and its twin franchise, Hearts of Iron.
Mechanics
As the title suggests, Europa Universalis IV: Mare Nostrum is focused primarily on expanding and enhancing trade and naval warfare. The biggest novelty is the introduction of mariners who directly influence the strength of our fleets and are crucial to build and repair our ships. Alongside them, the game received a completely new system that eases managing our ships during various tasks and patrol missions.
Thanks to mercenaries, the so-called condottieri, we can directly participate in foreign wars, earning additional money for our country. The expansion also offers the possibility of founding trade leagues that give their members both trade and military bonuses. The novelties list also features spy networks, corruption elements, new African nations (including the ones involved in piracy), and geographical (Ireland, Hungary) and cultural (Europe and Near East) map corrections.
Technical aspects
Europa Universalis IV: Mare Nostrum for PC does not introduce any significant changes in the game’s audiovisuals. However, another big patch, bearing the number of 1.16, is an integral part of the expansion and is available free of charge to all owners of Europa Universalis IV. The update traditionally enhances some of the gameplay aspects and fixes a number of minor bugs that were not removed in previous patches.
