The third official expansion for the popular strategy game Europa Universalis III which was released in 2007. The expansion called Heir to the Throne adds many innovations to the base game, trying to make it even more historically correct and show the problems with which the rulers had to deal with. Most of all, declaring a war is now much more important and each conflict has its beginning and specific objectives (casus belli).

Plugin introduces some interesting novelties, which, according to the creators, are a perfect complement to the two extensions released so far and the basic version of the game. Heir to the Throne tried to implement solutions that make the game even closer to the real historical events and problems faced by the rulers over the years.

It is much more important now to declare war - each conflict has its beginning and thus specific goals to be achieved during the war (Casus Belli system). We can also have a problem by engaging in a dispute with a related monarch. Family ties between the rulers of the state have in Heir to the Throne much greater importance and influence on diplomatic relations between all countries in the game. What is more, the ruler of each country must constantly take care of the legitimacy of power given to him by the people.

The role of the Pope and the Vatican has also increased significantly, as it is now much more closely involved in political life and can use several completely new means to put pressure on other rulers. All Republican states have also been given special opportunities in the diplomatic protocol. Less secure have become the oceans and seas, mainly due to the greater activity of pirates.

In the development of our own kingdom, we can now focus on specific provinces, so as to significantly increase the strength of our country in the region. Also disappeared were unknown areas called Terra Incognita in the Latin game - in addition, they were simply replaced by regions of the world inaccessible for exploration. The development of our technology will be extremely important for the effectiveness of advisors. For example, their skills will turn out to be much greater if we invest in 'cultural tradition'.

Note: Cenega Poland released Heir to the Throne and Divine Wind in Europa Universalis III: Fight for Tron. The price of this set was PLN 59.90 on the day of the premiere.
