A platform game, in which we control a group of aliens who are trying to take over… a TV set of a guy named Joe. The production focuses on multiplayer.
Developed by Macrales Studio, Epic Loon is an unusual, 2D, retro platformer inspired by such films as Godzilla, Nosferatu, Jurassic Park, and Alien. In the title, we control a group of aliens trying to take over control over… a TV set. The gameplay is based on an advanced physics engine and focuses on multiplayer.
Mechanics
Epic Loon is a side-scrolling title. Gameplay consists in going through locations and eliminating enemies (controlled by AI or other players, depending on the mode). During combat, we crash against the opponents. The production offers hundreds of various levels inspired by movies from VHS tapes, e.g. we can find ourselves on the Godzilla’s mouth or a body disfigured by Alien.
Game modes
Epic Loon offers Story mode, Speedrun, Hardcore (played solo or in co-op with up to three players), and Battle (competing against other players).
Technical aspects
The production features simple, 2D graphics. The aesthetic style is incredibly original – the game offers tons of visual references to the mentioned classic movies. Combined, those elements create a really crazy game. Some elements of the menu are also unusual, as they are created with the use of a film showing a hand picking a tape which represents a particular game mode. The soundtrack was composed by Pryapisme.
