Embers of Mirrim is a platform game featuring multiple adventure elements. The game has been created by Creative Bytes Studio, also known for working on, i.a., Skylanders SuperChargers. Embers of Mirrim is now available on PS4, XONE and PC.
Plot
In the game, a player travels to a grim fantasy world, where they take control over the titular Mirrim – a four-legged hybrid of two separate species representing the Light and the Darkness. Unfortunately, Mirrim’s home planet becomes infected by a mysterious force of alien origin that turns lands that were once beaming with life into wastelands. The main protagonist came into existence through the fusion of two Embers and is now tasked with saving his world from destruction and restoring the order. What is worth mentioning, the developers drew their inspirations for the game’s story from fantasy movies of the 1980s, such as The Neverending Story and The Dark Crystal.
Mechanics
In the PS4, XONE and PC release of Embers of Mirrim, the action is presented from a side perspective. Gameplay builds on the exploration of diverse locations – on his adventure, a player visits snow-capped mountain peaks and an ancient forest. During the game, players have to prove their reflexes and precision. Moreover, Mirrim has to face various opponents – as long as dealing with smaller enemies does not pose any significant challenge, a direct confrontation with larger foes might force Mirrim to run for it. Levels in which the overgrown monstrosities are chasing the main protagonist are dynamic and eye-catching.
When traversing consecutive locations, a player is bound to encounter multiple obstacles and logical puzzles – in order to overcome them, Mirrim has to literally split into two creatures in order to unleash all of his powers. The aforementioned beings that Mirrim is comprised of, can be controlled by a player separately using the analog controls. Both Embers can hover in mid-air and access previously unavailable locations, as well as gather levitating artifacts filled with magical energy.
Technical aspects
Embers of Mirrim features pleasing to one’s eye 3D visuals. This regards both character models and the memorable oneiric environment. During the game, a dedicated atmospheric soundtrack accompanies a player.
