Elvira: Mistress of the Dark Description
Elvira: Mistress of the Dark is a successful combination of adventure game with classic cRPG, maintained in a horror convention. The protagonist of the game is the gothic beauty of Elvira, created by American actress Cassandra Petterson for the television program, which presented class B horrors. Elvira's surprising popularity has resulted in two feature films with her, as well as the production of a series of video games.
The action of the game starts just after the events known from the films and takes us to Killbragant Castle, which our heroine inherited from her uncle Elmo. Elvira wants to restore its former glory, transforming it into a tourist attraction for horror fans. However, it awakens the evil spirit of Queen Emelda, murdered at the castle, who wants to return to life and take revenge. Elvira is imprisoned, and in order to defeat the evil queen, she has to find her magical book. This is where the role of the player begins, who as a hired hero comes to the castle to face Emelda and her henchmen and free Elvira from the hands of the queen.
In the dungeons, chambers and other nooks and crannies of Killbragant Castle we move in a jumping way, observing the action from the perspective of the first person. Graphics are to a large extent static images, interwoven with animations. All dialogues in the game take place automatically without giving us the possibility to influence the course of action. Most opponents can be avoided, but sometimes we will have to fight eye to eye with the servants of the evil queen. In case of failure, the game serves us one of the many animations of the hero's death prepared for this occasion. The game interface, consisting of a series of commands and an inventory window, resembles those known from other adventure games. The introductory element of cRPG features is a number of hero attributes, which we develop during the game.
