Electroshift is a first-person action game with RPG elements, maintained in a retro-futuristic atmosphere, combining elements of the steampunk and noir current. The production was created by an independent team of Old Sport Game Studios with significant support from Square Enix.
The action of the game takes place in an alternative version of Paris, which, rebuilt after a nuclear catastrophe, became a real jewel of the dying world and a symbol of human power in the fight against the inevitable apocalypse. But here too, under the mask of universal happiness, there are dozens of years of life in false Utopia and silent dramas of people dying of various epidemics and persistent radiation. In addition, the city is an arena of rivalry between two hostile factions, which, under the guise of good intentions, are constantly fighting for wealth and power. In the middle of this kind of civil war, the hero of Jacob's game hits - thanks to his skills he has a unique opportunity to stop the spreading madness.
In terms of mechanics Electroshift is modelled on such cult titles as Dishonored, BioShock Infinite, or the last installments of the Fallout series. The action is watched from the first person's perspective, and the game takes place in an open world consisting of the city with a network of underground canals and hidden nooks and crannies. Although the key role in the game is played by the action, it is driven by an extensive storyline, so during the game awaits us a number of varied tasks and conversations with encountered independent characters. In the hero's arsenal there is a whole lot of classic and futuristic weapons, which, together with the progress of the game, can be subject to various improvements. At the same time, we also have a number of special skills, which, like RPG games, have been grouped into typical development trees and can also be developed in the course of the game.
From a technical point of view, Electroshift takes advantage of the benefits offered by the fourth generation of the Unreal Engine, which allowed the authors to realize their artistic vision without the need to surrender to hardware limitations. Thanks to this, the open world of the game changes dynamically and constantly lives its own life, and every object seen from afar can be reached, giving in to the atmospheric and dark atmosphere of postapocalyptic Paris. In the audio layer we can hear full acting dubbing and an original soundtrack by Thomas Frost, creator of game music, commercials and feature films.
