Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is a classic jRPG. The Japanese studio Rabbit & Bear is responsible for it. The game was developed as the spiritual successor to the Suikoden cycle. The project was led by the creator of this series, Yoshitaka Murayama, and other veterans, including Junko Kawano, Osamu Komuta and Junichi Murakami, also took part in the works. It was the first project in over two decades that Murayama and Kawano worked on together.
Plot
The game takes place on the continent of Allraan, whose history has been shaped by constant wars between people, elves, animals and people of the desert. At the beginning of the story, the Galdean Empire dominates, gaining an advantage over its rivals through the discovery of a technology that increases the power of the runic lenses that form the basis of magic in this land.
Galdean regularly organizes expeditions to find a powerful artifact to permanently establish this power. During one of them, a young imperial army officer and a warrior from a small village meet. They will quickly become friends, but fate will throw them into the middle of a war story that will change the history of the whole continent.
Mechanics
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is a Japanese RPG that refers to the classic representatives of this genre. The game is about exploring the world, completing tasks, developing characters and fighting battles. The fights are played in turn-based system, in which we direct a six-person team.
The game is not limited to presenting the fate of these two heroes. In total, we learn the stories of hundreds of characters involved in the conflict. Each of them has a unique personality and their own adventures. Not all of them are soldiers - there are also many people specializing in other areas that will help us win the war.
The development and management of the town plays a key role in the game. Recruited characters live there, becoming e.g. a local blacksmith or cook. As our fort grows, new trading options and additional opportunities to improve characters and equipment are opening up to us. In addition, heroes can join guilds that provide access to unique attributes.
The gameplay is made more attractive by mini-gliders, focusing on cooking or catching fish.
Game modes
The game has only single player mode. The devs did not provide any multiplayer mode. After passing the campaign, the New Game option is unlocked, allowing the story to be completed again while maintaining character development, but with a higher level of difficulty.
Technical aspects
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes offers attractive graphics, with three-dimensional locations and two-dimensional characters. It looks modern, but retains a 32-bit jRPG atmosphere.
