A survival horror inspired by early Resident Evil and Silent Hill games. In Echoes of the Living we play as two people trying to escape a city overtaken by hordes of zombies, mutated animals and other nightmarish creatures.
Echoes of the Living is a survival horror inspired by the genre's greats, such as the early Resident Evil and Silent Hill games. It was developed by the independent studio MoonGlint.
Plot
Echoes of the Living takes place in 1996, in a fictional town in northern Europe. One night, the town becomes shrouded in a mysterious fog which brought chaos down onto the streets - terrifying creatures appeared in town, such as zombies and mutated animals.
The game features two playable characters: a policewoman, Laurel, and an ex-special forces soldier, Liam, who must survive and escape the town before it's too late.
Mechanics
Just like in the iconic games of the genre, the gameplay of Echoes of the Living is shown from a variety of set, "cinematic" angles. The player traverses numerous dark and grim locations, such as a hospital, a library, a police station and a school. We must complete objectives and solve puzzles, mostly involving searching for items and using them in a specific way, as well as manipulating objects.
We must constantly be on guard, as danger lurks everywhere. We can kill enemies with firearms or melee weapons; over time we upgrade our gear and acquire new weaponry. Resources, such as ammo and healing items, are scarce; our inventory's capacity is also limited, forcing us to make difficult decisions and choose which items to get rid of or take with us. Yet another source of challenge is the save system - we can only save the game in dedicated save rooms.
Technical aspects
The visuals of Echoes of the Living are decent. The atmospheric and detailed locations may be especially appealing.
