Echo Generation is a hybrid of adventure and turn-based RPG in retro style from Stranger Things. The game was developed by the American independent studio Cococucumber, creators of Riverbond and Planet of the Eyes.

Plot

Echo Generation takes place in summer 1993 and tells the story of a group of kids who decide to investigate a mysterious accident. Shortly afterwards, they witness supernatural events and have to face monsters and mosses to save their hometown.

Mechanics

The game combines the features of adventure game and RPG, so the gameplay is mainly about exploring your hometown and its surroundings, performing role-playing tasks and fighting enemies encountered in turn-based system. Duels take place in special arenas and the attack is carried out after selecting one of several available special abilities. As we explore the plot, we also have to face bosses, with whom the clashes are played out in hybrid mode (in real time and in rounds).

During the adventure in Echo Generation, you can join the team of other kids and animals that help the main character in the fight against enemies. We develop the characters for the experience points gained during skirmishes and quests.

Technical aspects

Echo Generation graphic design is stylized in pixelart 3D and thus refers to games from the 1990s. What also adds to the charm is the fact that the surroundings and the appearance of the characters give the impression of being built of blocks, which emphasizes even more the unique retro style. Graphic design is combined with the soundtrack, which consists mainly of electronic sounds, including synthwave tracks.

On the Xbox Series X console, the game runs at 4K and 60 frames per second.
