A spin-off to an installment in the popular series of Japanese games developed by Omega Force - Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires, a game that was released in 2014. In contrast to previous installments of the series, this time it is a turn-based RPG with strategy features.

Dynasty Warriors: Eiketsuden (Shin Sangoku Musou Eiketsuden) is another installment of the Dynasty Warriors series and a spin-off of Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires that was released in 2014. The PS4, PSV and PS3 version of the game was developed by Omega Force studios, the creators of other installments of the series and such games like Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 and Hyrule Warriors Legends.

Mechanics

In difference to regular installments of Dynasty Warriors series, Dynasty Warriors: Eiketsuden for PS4, PSV and PS3 is a turn-based RPG with strategy games features. The gameplay focuses mostly on fights that take place on small areas divided into tiles, moving through which is possible by using action points. Action points are also used for attacking, forcing the players to avoid getting too close to the enemy without being able to attack him. The game system also considers range of weapons and the fact that some characters have low “cost” of action points – this allow them to perform not one, but two or even three attacks per turn.

Effective play fills Resonance bar which allows performing special attack. The strength of that attack depends on nearby allies (the more of them, the better). At the end of attack’s animation the player participates in a short QTE completing which gives additional bonus that can lead him to victory.

All of that combined makes the gameplay very complex and forces the player to predict the moves of the opponent. Much also depends on heroes recruited during the game and equipment bought from the world map. From the world map one can also open menu that allows changing character parameters.

Among the heroes there are characters well known from other installments of Dynasty Warriors, including Zhao Yun (the main protagonist), Cai Wenji, Wang Yi, Pang De, Ding Feng, Yueying, Xingcai, Liu Shan, Guan Suo, Bao Sanniang, Deng Ai. There are also a few newcomers like Lei Bin and Lixia.

Technical aspects

Dynasty Warriors: Eiketsuden for PS4, PSV and PS3 is a three-dimensional game that has graphics style similar to other installments of the series. However, the action is observed from a top-down perspective and some attacks are zoomed in order to present detailed character models.
