Dungeon Drafters

Dungeon Drafters is a combination of a dungeon crawler, card game and roguelike. It was developed by the independent Brazilian Manalith Studios and published by Dangen Entertainment.

Plot

Dungeon Drafters is set in a fantasy world. We play as a young adventurer traveling through ancient underground ruins in search of treasure and fame.

Mechanics

Dungeon Drafters makes use of the top-down perspective. We start the game by choosing a playable character, each of which has a unique starting deck. During our adventure we travel through dungeons, complete quests, save other adventurers and gradually grow stronger, letting us venture deeper undeground.

Numerous enemies await us on our journey. Battles are turn-based, taking place on arenas covered with a square grid. To eliminate foes we must play cards representing magical attacks. These include unimaginably powerful spells, such as earthquakes that reach across the entire field, and weaker, more concentrated spells such as fireballs. We can also summon allies to support us in battle. To succeed, we must play correct cards to exploit the enemies' weaknesses and chain them into deadly combos.

In-between our escapades we visit a town that serves as our base. Here we can talk to the locals and accept new quests, as well as acquire new cards by purchasing them or trading. The game features permadeath, so if we don't want to lose our deck, we must stay careful and return to the town as often as possibly to restock on supplies and enhance our card collection. Dying forces us to start over, as the same character or a different one. It's worth remembering that our starting deck only decides our playstyle early on; we can tweak each character to our preferences later.

Technical aspects

The visuals of Dungeon Drafters are simple, though colorful and easily readable, making use of pixel art.
