[1:36] Drone Swarm trailer #1
God is a Geek: 7.5 / 10 by Chris White
Drone Swarm is a simple strategy title with great combat set amongst some pretty backdrops, where battles provide plenty of excitement.
TheSixthAxis: 7 / 10 by Nic Reuben
A confident, creative approach to the RTS genre that falters in its structure and progression systems.
Cubed3: 5 / 10 by Eric Ace
Appreciating the narrow focus on the game they sought to deliver was one of the better points of the experience. By stripping away a lot of excess systems it allowed a better core experience. The issues are bad optimization that leads to heavy lag and frequent crashes. Additionally the gameplay is too fast for the 'art' style of attacking to truly be effective resulting in a major loss of what was the initial draw of the game to begin with.
Drone Swarm Description
Drone Swarm is a hybrid of strategy and adventure game in which we control a giant swarm of drones in the fights taking place in space. StillAlive (creators of Son of Nor, Grand Casino Tycoon or Rescue HQ - The Tycoon) is responsible for the development of this game. The publisher is astragon Entertainment.
Plot
Drone Swarm takes place in 2018 in the science fiction universe, in which the Earth was attacked by aliens who had deserted the planet using swarms of battle drones. A handful of survivors have discovered that, thanks to the psionic power, deadly machines can be taken over. The hero of the game is a captain Carter, who commands the Argo spacecraft in the war with the aliens.
Mechanics
Drone Swarm is a side-scroll strategy game with arcade elements. The player's task is to defeat foreign ships with a swarm of battle drones consisting of 32 000 machines. We need to think strategically and deploy the machines in an appropriate way to be able to eliminate obstacles.
During the game we use various abilities and exploit the surroundings. As the game progresses, we can also improve our hive, learn new skills and improve the ship that is our base.
Game modes
In Drone Swarm we can only play alone. The core of the game is a feature campaign consisting of over a hundred missions.
Technical aspects
Drone Swarm has a nice, three-dimensional graphic design. The ship and location designs look decent, but definitely the best impression is made by very impressive animations of the drones swarm, which moves like a shoal of fish (it is a bit like the Zergling movement in StarCraft II).
