Dream Cycle is an action adventure game developed by Cathuria Games studio and published by Raw Fury. The project, which is a game-service, was supervised by Toby Gard, i.e. one of the "fathers" of the Tomb Raider series.
Plot
Dream Cycle is based on the works of Howard Philips Lovecraft. The main character of the game is Morgan Carter, a young adept of secret knowledge, whose spiritual essence was stolen by her uncle - the legendary Randolph Carter. Imprisoned in the Dreamlands, the protagonist sets off on her relative's trail to regain her power and restore balance to the land, as well as prevent Randolph from carrying out his plan to become a god.
Mechanics
In Dream Cycle we observe the action from the third (TPP) or first (FPP) person perspective. Game gives us a vast land consisting of countless procedurally generated levels. Each of them is a separate "sandbox area", where we move on foot, in the air or using teleports. New locations, where new adventures await us, are added by the developers in regular updates.
Traversing various locations, we complete tasks set before us, gradually learning more and more about the world presented. Enemies stand in our way, and we can eliminate them in open combat, using cold weapons and firearms, or by using magic. There's also nothing to stop you dealing with your opponents quietly, sneaking behind their backs and attacking them by surprise. As you progress, you gain new skills, increasing your character's combat potential and adjusting it to your individual preferences.
Technical aspects
Dream Cycle has colourful graphics made in cel-shading technique. Soundtrack for the game was composed by Nathan McCree, whose portfolio includes scores for the first Tomb Raider games.
