Mechanics

DreadOut 2 features the same gameplay core as its predecessors, but this time the creators opted for more freedom in exploring the world. We observe the game from third-person perspective, and our character travels through the mysterious town at different times of day and night. On her way, the heroine encounters many human NPCs, who provide her with good advice, information about phantoms and ghosts, and side tasks to perform.

DreadOut 2 it's mostly a survival horror, and the main weapon that our brave high school student has at her disposal is a phone with a built-in camera. By taking pictures we discover things invisible to the naked eye. Such hidden clues and information from the world of ghosts will enable us to solve puzzles. But more often we will have to fight with paranormal creatures that we encounter on our way. Depending on the type of opponent we are fighting, other gadgets will be more useful. When battling a ghost, a phantom or any other creature without a physical body, the phone, or rather the flash of its camera, comes to the rescue again, because these phantoms are susceptible to its bright light, which significantly weakens them. On the other hand, when the enemy is fully material our heroine is less defenseless, and can deal with the threat with the help of a melee weapon, e.g. a knife or an axe, landing blows on enemy's vital points.

The second game features also battles with various and powerful bosses.

Technical aspects

The DreadOut series is clearly inspired by the iconic survival horror game series Fatal Frame, which made its debut on Playstation 2.

DreadOut 2 is an atmospheric game with three-dimensional graphics, powered by Unreal Engine, and the ambient/metal soundtrack and characteristic elements of Asian folklore give the game a specific atmosphere of horror.
