Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 is the second installment of the side series of the popular RPG saga called Dragon Quest. Dragon Quest Monsters productions abandon complex and epic storylines, focusing on younger audiences and people who don't care about the complicated mechanics of the game. The formula of the game is very much like the one we know from the Pokemon series. Just like there, we catch, collect and raise various kinds of monsters, which we then fight with other coaches. Dragon Quest Monsters: The Joker 2 offers a little more depth and its turn-based combat system differs from that of Poker, giving more tactical possibilities and making the title a little more difficult for beginner players to master.
As in the previous part, the main character of the game is an adventurous young boy, whose dream is to become the best trainer and tracker of monsters in the world. When a flying ship, on which the world championships of monsters are being held, crashes in mysterious circumstances together with the passengers of an island inhabited by dozens of different creatures, waiting only for talented and persistent coaches, a chance opens up for it to really become the best of the best. Our task will be to explore rains, hunt and train monsters, as well as to help our fellow passengers, which will inevitably involve fighting with the bosses holding them.
Monsters are available in three sizes: small, medium and large. Their size determines how many of them can appear simultaneously on the battlefield. We have to decide whether we want to use one large or three small creatures in combat. Each of them has many attacks and special skills that are useful during battles with specific types of enemies. Developing the right strategy is therefore the key to victory. The possibility of changing monsters during the battles we commanded will certainly help us in this.
The game also allows you to synthesize the charges controlled by us and thus create many unique and extremely powerful monsters. Newborn creatures can use one of the 240 skill trees that the player can assign to them by selecting candidates for synthesis. As the game has a system of time of day, which depends on what creatures we will meet and be able to catch, creating a dream monster, with selected attacks, may require a lot of time and dedication.
The title via the wi-fi network supports multiplayer mode for up to eight players, allowing you to play and duel together, as well as exchange captured creatures.
The graphics have been significantly improved compared to the first part published in 2007. It is much more detailed and pleasing to the eye. As in the original, all the characters and creatures encountered were made in a cel-shading technique, giving the game a comic backdrop that is characteristic of the Dragon Quest series.
