An action-adventure game developed by Italian studio Caracal Games. Its action takes place a thousand years after the biblical apocalypse – a global cataclysm has destroyed Earth during the Middle Ages, decimating the human population. Some survivors have managed to live on, but they weren’t able to recreate even the foundations of the former civilization.

Downward is an action-adventure game with extensive platforming sequences, developed for PC by an Italian studio Caracal Games.

Plot

The authors have decided upon an unusual version of a post-apocalyptic scenario. In Downward, the humanity wa enxtincted by a biblical end of the world that happened during the Middle Ages. However, some remnants survived, but recreating any part of the past civilization turned out to be impossible. The action of the game takes place a thousand years after the cataclysm. We assume the role of a pilgrim that travels through a completely desolate world, exploring the ruins of civilization in search of knowledge and artifacts that give some insight on the apocalypse.

Mechanics

The game world is open and was designed as to encourage players to explore it. The action is seen from the perspective of the pilgrim, who is capable enough to run through and climb to the locations that are seemingly unacessible to an ordinary mortal. Additionally, we can employ mounts to traverse large distances.

The authors designed Downward not just as a straightforward exploration game – we receive certain tasks to accomplish, our journeys are dangerous, while reaching some of the locations require considerable agility and ingenuity. We will be also facing numerous logic puzzles and challenges that will test our reflex.
