French DK Project: The Last City of Heaven is a quite unconventional action game. The authors managed to create a work difficult to classify in terms of genre, although it is easy to find traces of inspiration with several well-known hits. The ability to move freely around the game world brings to mind the Grand Theft Auto, while rotating in the world of organized crime automatically evokes associations with, for example, the game Mafia.
The thing is happening in the near future, in 2030, in a futuristic city called SkyneCity. The protagonist of the players is twenty-year-old Nina Stovakov. The girl, possessed by the desire to find her father's murderers, gets into conchettes with her mafia family. It is precisely the work for a criminal organisation and the search for perpetrators that is associated with the main theme. The great advantage of the DK Project is that we are not forced to carry out missions related to the most important intrigue on a regular basis. On the contrary, we have a great deal of freedom of movement and choice. Without any restrictions, we can look for activities and impressions in the city. And there is where to wander, SkyneCity stretches over three islands and is full of attractions and surprises. There are nightclubs, casinos, theatres, restaurants, shops, bookshops, hospitals, banks, military bases and places offering fun in the virtual world. We meet a lot of colourful characters with different characters. Some of them can be joined if we want to create our own criminal group. During the game Nina learns several useful skills, e.g. swimming (in different styles). Game developers even give us the opportunity to buy land and build a dream home.
As befits an action game, there is no shortage of elements raising the temperature of the game. Nina is perfect as a killer, regardless of whether she is facing the enemy alone or with companions. In the latter case, he can give simple orders to NPCs like "Go Forward", "Wait" or "Hide Hide Himself". We have at our disposal quite a wide arsenal of weapons, but the most interesting idea associated with the fight, is to use special implants, which increase the physical capabilities of the heroine, which significantly affects the outcome of the clash. There are about twenty types of implants available, each with a different action and impact strength.
During the game we often use a considerable set of means of transport: cars, trucks, motorcycles, helicopters, boats, planes and even fighters (they can be found in military bases). Some of these vehicles have quite unusual equipment (after all, we are in 2030). We will find here, among others, cars with on-board weapons, equipped with a magnetic shield, remotely controlled and driven by unique fuels.
For the needs of the game a new engine was created, which allows to obtain excellent graphic effects. Thanks to this we have to deal with a huge number of details (e.g. accurately reproduced vehicles, damage to the environment after a fight, etc.), as well as very nice lighting effects (e.g. reflections of light on the water).
