Dizzy Returns is another platform game set in the world of the egg hero, Dizzy, created by brothers Andrew and Philip Oliver. The first game in the series, Dizzy: The Ultimate Cartoon Adventure, debuted in 1987 on ZX Spectrum computers, and by 1992 the series had grown by more than a dozen consecutive editions. Dizzy Returns, created by Blitz Games studio (Epic Mickey 2: The Strength of Two), is an attempt to add new outfits to the old formula and improve gameplay mechanics thanks to today's technical capabilities. Not surprisingly, since the release of the previous part of the cycle it is more than 20 years away.
Dizzy Returns once again takes players to the familiar kingdom of Zakeria, where they can again visit places such as Keldor, the village of Treehouse, the Castle of the Clouds, as well as several new locations. Drawing the plot of the game, the creators tried to give answers to many questions that could be in the minds of the fans, such as why the sorcerer Zaks took so much attention to Dizzy and how many Treasure Island is still to be explored. There were also a few touching (or not) meetings with old friends.
Of course, we play the role of Dizzy and with him we take part in an adventure, the essence of which is running, jumping, avoiding enemies and solving logical puzzles with the use of objects found along the way. The combination of platformer and adventure game elements was the success of the original, so it couldn't be missing in Dizzy Returns. The puzzles can be tackled in different order, which introduces a certain non-linearity. Riddles in classic Dizzy games were quite complicated, so the authors decided to introduce a dynamic system of hints not to alienate those not used to high level of difficulty.
Hand-drawn graphics are a big leap forward in quality compared to previous page views (even if you consider Dizzy: Prince of the Yolkfolk cartoon remake for iOS). For those who remember good old times and all those interested in how you played two decades ago, there is a possibility to turn on the game in a version with 8-bit binding and without a hint system.
