Distortions PC

Distortions is an episodic action-adventure game released on PC. The title was developed by Portugal studio Among Giants.

Plot

The game tells the story of a young woman who wakes up in an anonymous hospital after a car accident. Soon she discovers that the time had stopped and the frozen objects are animated only if she touches them. The female protagonist soon discovers the path and decides to follow it no matter where it takes her. It won’t be a safe journey since the outside world transformed into a surrealistic realm and at the very end of the road she can see a giant creature in chains.

During the journey the protagonist must discover why she is in this weird place and she must find a way back to her own world.

Mechanics

Distortions for PC is an action-adventure game in which the player faces challenges that test his cleverness and agility. During most of the time the action is shown from a third-person perspective. The world has open structure and the player can walk off the path and explore the surrounding areas – however it is quite risky. From time to time the player will also participate in sections inspired by old platform games – during them the player can move only in two dimensions.

During her adventure, the protagonist must frequently solve riddles and fight enemies. In both types of challenges a magic violin that can shape the reality is of key importance. For example, it can summon new objects or destroy those already existing. Using this instrument is similar to the way guitar is used in games like Guitar Hero – the player must press specific keys at the right time.

The surrealistic realm is accompanied by a parallel reality with different rules. The protagonist can freely move between these realities and the actions performed in one world have consequences in the second one.
