Distance

Distance is a futuristic survival racing game for PC and PS4. It is the debut production of Refract, a studio which employees, as students of DigiPen Institute, created a very well-received free racing game entitle Nitronic Rush.

Mechanics

The players sit behind the wheel of a futurist car that, apart from driving at insane speeds, can also fly, jump, rapidly rotate around its axis, and use afterburners. The fun is not limited to racing, though. Tracks are full of imaginative traps, and the exploration of the game world plays an important role. The developers didn’t bother with realism and instead put emphasis on purely arcade driving model. While racing, we have to perform insane stunts and maneuvers all the time. Oftentimes, we have to leave the track and fly to another. Great emphasis was also put on survival elements. We won’t have to circle the same route. Instead, our task is to reach the finish line as quickly as possible and in one piece. It is easier thanks to gadgets mounted in the cars that let us drive on ceilings and walls. At the same time, finding shortcuts is very important.

Game modes

Distance for PC and PS4 offers a number of various modes, both for a single player and for multiplayer play. Apart from classical racing, the game features playing tag, capture the flag, cooperation, and stunt mode.

Technical aspects

The developers also prepared a very advanced editor that lets players create their own tracks very quickly. The production is powered by a new engine and therefore offers significantly better graphics than Nitronic Rush.
