Disgaea 6 Complete

Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny is the next instalment of the Japanese strategy and tactical RPG (sRPG) series developed since 2003, when the first part of the series debuted. The following games became famous for their merciless mockery of the schemes established by pop culture, including games and all works in fantasy climates (books, films, manga, etc.). Nippon Ichi Software studio is responsible for the development of the sixth game from the Disgaea series.

Plot

In Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny we follow the story of Zed, once humble and kind to everyone. Except that as the adventure begins, the young zombie has had countless battles with the god of destruction that threatens all worlds. However, constant failures have not broken Zed. Instead, he has developed a boastful temper, willingly using both insults and violence. He also continues his pursuit of the god that threatens him and his sister Bieko. However, support from her and the brilliant dog Cerberus (who has little in common with his namesake from Greek mythology) is not enough and Zed must seek allies among humans, demons and other inhabitants of countless worlds.

Mechanics

The gameplay in Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny refers to previous part of the series and is a direct continuation of it. The core of the game are turn-based battles on battlefields divided into squares, and during fights we can use various combinations of attacks, spells and special abilities. Each character has (apart from many statistics) unique features that influence its effectiveness in combat.

Like every Disgaea, Defiance of Destiny relies on an absurd style, parodying the games, movies, anime and fantasy literature. It is also evident in the gameplay mechanics. Available actions include the ability to pick up and throw friendly characters at enemies, and at every step the game floods us with absurd numbers. Disgaea 6 has gone further: the maximum experience level has been increased to 99,999,999, and the most powerful attacks can deal more than a billion points of damage. Moreover, unlike many other sRPG productions, the game allows you to create your own heroes, assigned to one of dozens of classes.

Apart from that, Disgaea 6 introduces a few other innovations and improvements, such as super reincarnation (a more powerful version of the reincarnation from the previous installments of the series, allowing the hero to be strengthened in exchange for returning to level 1), the possibility to replay a selected stage, Item Worlds (special levels inside items - the reward for completing them is strengthening the given piece of equipment), new character classes, etc. An interesting new feature is the system that allows you to give detailed commands to characters, for example to use certain types of attacks against the types of enemies selected by the player.

Technical aspects and other

Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny is the first part of the series, in which there are not only 3D stages, but also 3D models of characters and monsters. Nevertheless, the absurd artistic style typical for the series was maintained, and during the dialogues we can still enjoy 2D artwork by Takehito Harada.
