Dimday Red is a text-based RPG in which we take on the role of a hero trying to survive in a brutal world standing at the threshold of the apocalypse. The title is the result of a cooperation between eNVy softworks and 1sickpuppy.
Plot
Dimday Red tells us a grim vision of the future, in which the Earth's orbit has been disturbed, causing the planet to slowly approach the Sun. In the world of the game, such a state of affairs has lasted for 130 years, with far-reaching consequences. Days began to lengthen, most of the Northern Hemisphere went under water after the polar ice caps melted, and the world's largest metropolises fell into ruin. To top it all off, things are only going to get worse - according to scientists' estimates, in 52 years the Earth is expected to be so close to the Sun that life on its surface will no longer be possible.
The main character of the game is Cillian - an assassin living in Neu Bonn, working for the Syndicates, who does everything to protect himself and his partner - Meg. How his fate will turn out and end depends on our actions and the decisions we make.
Game mechanics
Dimday Red draws handfuls from narrative RPGs. We are introduced to descriptions of places and situations in which the protagonist finds himself, we carry out conversations with various characters, as well as make various choices and fight enemies. Our decisions impinge on the protagonist's further fate and his relationship with the residents of Neu Bonn, and also influence which of the story's endings we will see. As we progress, we collect cards that correspond to Cillian's positive and negative character traits (a total of 42 cards are waiting to be discovered, from which we select his "major sins" and "heavenly virtues"). The hero's personality influences the results of our actions, although the latter also largely depend on the results of dice rolls.
Technical aspects
The graphics in Dimday Red consist mainly of two-dimensional illustrations presenting Cillian and other characters and the places and situations they find themselves in.
