Digested

Digested is a survival horror game in which we must avoid being eaten by a giant snake. It's the debug game of an indie studio Karel.

Mechanics

Digested is a first-person game. Unlike in most first-person games, we don;'t see the events from the protagonist's perspective, but rather from the camera attached to his suit. This means the player can grab the camera and turn it around, seeing not only the surroundings but also ourselves.

The game is set in a forest, as we're only equipped with a map and a compass. We must discover navigation points to find the extraction capsule and get out of there.

All the while we're pursued by a massive, hungry snake. As we traverse the thicket, we must be careful and try not to make any noise. If we're detected, we must run for it and seek shelter in an abandoned building... if we can reach it.

Navigation points must be found on our own, as there are no objective markers of any knd. These let us orient ourselves in the field and grant temporary buffs to gain an advantage over our opponent.

Though the game is short, the starting point, navigation points and the extraction capsule are randomluy placed each time, meaning each playthrough is slightly different.

Technical aspects

Digested is a yet another game aiming for photorealism through bodycam-like visuals, like Unrecord and Bodycam. The game also makes use of a vignette, a subdued color palette and various filters.
