A rail shooter dedicated to HTC Vive headsets developed by Ninja Theory. We are given three distinct game modes – Challenge Mode, Arcade Mode, and Zen Mode. Challenge and Arcade modes focus on combat, while Zen Mode offers the ability to peacefully traverse three-dimensional environments.
DEXED for PC and PS4 is a colorful VR rail shooter conceived and developed by Ninja Theory, a British studio known for numerous action-adventure and hack ‘n’ slash titles. The game itself is the studio’s first attempt to enter the VR market – the developers decided to release the title for the HTC Vive virtual reality system.
Mechanics
The action of DEXED is seen from the first person view. The player is left with three independent gameplay modes – Challenge, Arcade, and an ambiguous Zen mode. The first two modes boil down to fighting numerous opponents using two blasters that shoot fiery and icy projectiles. As can easily be imagined, both guns are effective against different types of opponents – moreover, each weapon generates a shield that can block or deflect incoming strikes.
Our opponents are divided between typical small units, as well as more powerful beings that can only be bested through dexterity and a larger amount of projectiles. On the path to the goal, the player is accompanied by a point counter, which keeps our score multiplied by various events, such as a successful rocket barrage or longer bouts of accurate fire.
The so called Zen Mode is a relax-oriented mode offering the ability of peaceful travel through breathtaking and unique locations, including marine worlds, subterranean depths, or snowy valleys.
Game Modes
DEXED for PC and PS4 is a singleplayer-only game. Nevertheless, Ninja Theory implemented online rankings that offer some semblance of player versus player rivalry.
Technical Aspects
The game is characteristic for its high-quality three-dimensional visuals inspired by titles such as Child of Eden or Rez. DEXED is a title dedicated to HTC Vive VR headsets and supports dedicated motion controllers.
