A metroidvania game in the form of 2D action platformer, similar in many ways to Hollow Knight. The key element of Deviator is the combat system - we must parry enemy attacks and charge the momentum bar allowing for boosts. It's also important to explore new locations.

Deviator is a metroidvania, created in the form of an action platforming game. It was developed by the independent team Gami Studio and is their debut project.

Gameplay

In Deviator we watch the action from the side. The game takes us to a fantasy world which is a home to strange creatures. By embodying one of them, we explore this land and discover its secrets, as well as face the dangers lurking within it.

Adventure leads us through various locations - from lush forests, through ice-bound canyons, ending in a metropolis filled with technology. They are filled with platforms that we jump on, as well as traps and terrain obstacles that we must avoid and overcome. We also often have to fight opponents along the way. We eliminate enemies, both by engaging in fierce duels with them in close combat (using melee weapons), and by launching ranged attacks.

The combat system implemented here places particular emphasis on parrying. By deflecting enemy blows, we charge a special momentum indicator, and after completing it, we gain a temporary boost (including in the form of greater damage to targets). The key to success is careful observation of the enemy's movements, as well as demonstrating reflexes, which allows us to react in time to the actions of our opponents.

As we progress, we unlock abilities that not only allow us to face increasingly powerful adversaries, but also enable us to reach new places. From time to time, it is worth returning to the locations already visited, if only to discover previously overlooked secrets.
