Plot
The action is set in the titular city of Wishteria, where magic combines with steampunk elements, and the streets of the cities are full of both ordinary people and beings straight from fairy tales and legends. At the start of the campaign, the metropolis isn't doing well. A series of mysterious crimes made the inhabitants afraid of their own lives. Someone has to take on the task of restoring order and security and this task falls on the shoulders of a young private detective named Dixie. She has to solve a series of extremely difficult cases. Initially, they will seem to be unrelated, but as you learn more and more tips, you will start to see that one person might be responsible for all the misfortunes.
Mechanics
Detective Dixie and the Revenge of Wishteria is an adventure game which means that the gameplay tests only our intellect - there are no arcade challenges. While playing, we explore the city, talk to characters, collect items and solve puzzles. Some elements of the investigations take the form of logical mini-games. In addition, interrogations play a key role, during which we need to use the knowledge we have acquired previously to show the holes in the witness or suspect's testimony and, as a result, to discover the truth. When we manage to collect enough evidence, we have to go to the police station. The last challenge awaits us there - to convince police officers to arrest the perpetrator discovered by the heroine.
Technical aspects
Detective Dixie and the Revenge of Wishteria offers attractive 2D graphics. It was made in a cartoon style, with eye-catching animations, both during the game and during the cut-scenes.
