Department 42: Nine Secrets is a detective HOG (Hidden Object Games) adventure aimed at casual market participants. The game is the work of Frogwares Games studio, known for its Sherlock Holmes series.

The plot focuses on the investigation conducted by Alice Wright, an agent of Department 42, a secret government agency to counter the threat from paranormal forces. The main character was given the task of finding nine powerful items that had disappeared in mysterious circumstances during the fire at Grimestone Residence. Soon it turns out that the forces of evil are involved in the matter, and humanity is at the threshold of a nightmare.

As befits a HOG game in the classic formula, the basis of the game are scenes with cleverly camouflaged items to be found before the time limit has elapsed. The game is enriched by addictive mini-games with a logical and arcade character.

The creators made sure that the level of difficulty was not too high, and at the same time required concentration and precision from the players. A simple system of hints also makes it easier to deal with the problematic riddles.

In the audiovisual layer, Department 42: The Mystery of the Nine does not deviate from the standards of casual adventures. Developers took advantage of proven solutions, such as point'n'click interface and two-dimensional graphics with manually drawn backgrounds and uncomplicated animations.
