Democracy Description
Democracy is a turn-based strategy game in which we play the role of the president (or prime minister) of a fictitious democratic state. The game's producer and publisher is Positech Games, founded by former Lionhead Studios employee, Cliff Harris. The studio is known from Starship Tycoon.
Mechanics
In Democracy, we manage key aspects of a democratic state. We control a total of seven extremely important fields, such as economics, taxation, law and order, health care, transport, public services, and foreign policy. In the course of the game, we will also have to deal with a whole series of randomly generated events and dilemmas that every leader has to face. These include problems such as a nationwide epidemic, increasing levels of environmental pollution or assigning key positions in government institutions.
All our activities are constantly monitored by several different political parties, as well as certain social groups, each of which has specific expectations of the authorities. We will face not only capitalists, socialists, liberals or conservatives, but also representatives of certain worldviews and professional groups, such as the poor and rich, anarchists and patriots, religious people, drinkers, smokers and addicts-free, single people, parents, etc. The game is a great opportunity for us to face up to the challenges of the future. However, it is difficult to imagine that it would be possible to reconcile all the citizens of our country, so we must pursue a policy of compromise and try to satisfy as many potential voters as possible. This fact is important because if we notoriously fail to fulfill election promises, our office will come to an end.
As far as the setting is concerned, Democracy is maintained in a rather minimalistic tone, caused to a large extent due to the nature of the game itself. The game doesn't feature spectacular graphics or animations. Instead, we are accompanied mainly by various graphs, tables and charts showing how the situation in the country changes.
