Deceit 2 is the second installment of the multiplayer action game series with survival horror elements originating from 2017. It was developed by the same studio as its predecessor, World Makers (formerly known as Automaton Games).
Plot
Deceit 2 takes place in the Millhaven Asylum, where an occult ritual was performed in 1979 with only a single survivor. Decades later, the so-called Truth Seekers Anonymous arrive at the site, aiming to learn the place's history and solve its mysteries. Things, unfortunately, get out of hand, as they're all imprisoned by the mysterious Game Master, who infects two of them with a virus letting them transform into horrifying monsters. This forces the survivors to find a way out of the asylum, while the infected do all in their power to stop them.
Mechanics
The gameplay of Deceit 2 differs depending on our role. Uninfected (Innocent) players must collect souls found around the asylum to get the key opening the escape route. They must also keep a close eye on other players, picking up on any abnormal behavior.
Two seemingly Innocent players are actually Infected, tasked with activating Blood Altars to transport all players to a hellish dimension called The In-Between. While there, the Infected turn into terrifying, powerful monsters and are tasked with killing one of the Seekers to complete the ritual. The Innocents must try to avoid being sacrificed.
Collected souls can be used to trade with the mysterious Peddler. The items he sells can be useful in the Asylum or help us survive (or kill, if Infected) in The In-Between. These include an "invisibility cloak" (which doesn't need explanation), a mask letting us impersonate other players, a special teleport, a hammer or a smoke grenade. There are also gadgets encouraging cooperation, coordination and detecting infected, as well as bandages, torches, serums (to help Innocents stay calm in The In-Between) or firearms.
While the Innocents are pretty much helpless in The In-Between, Infected can be killed in the asylum; if we're certain a player is Infected, we can kill them to make our lives easier. We mustn't be reckless, however, as if we're wrong we can end up killing an Innocent, weakening our team.
Game modes
Deceit 2 only supports asymmetrical multiplayer. The game requires six people at least, nine people at most to play.
Technical aspects
Compared to the original, the visuals of Deceit 2 have been vastly improved. The game runs on the Unreal Engine 5 and looks rather decent. The character models, monster designs and locations have all been worked on.
