Dead Age 2 is a continuation of a 2016 turn-based RPG with survival elements, taking us to a world dominated by zombies. The developers from Silent Dreams, which also developed the Grotesque Tactics series, are responsible for the development of the title.
Plot
Unlike its predecessor, Dead Age 2 features significant story layer. The action of the game takes place ten years after the events of the first part. Jack and his group of survivors left the old camp and went to Freedom City, where a cure for the zombie plague was discovered. However, the hero's situation goes from bad to worse, because the city is becoming an arena for battles between new factions. The army, smugglers and Independents are fighting for control of the metropolis, with gangs of bandits and hordes of living corpses roaming the streets.
Mechanics
Dead Age 2 uses the formula developed in the first installment, which is an unusual mixture of turn-based RPG with survival and roguelike game. As before, our main task is to survive in the hostile world. To this end, we are expanding our base, managing scarce resources and assigning tasks to our people. They are not, however, obedient robots: they take care of their own interests, make friends and alliances, but also het into romances. These relations have a significant impact on the situation in the camp and the behaviour of survivors during missions, facilitating or hindering the survival of the whole group.
After leaving the camp we get access to an open world consisting of over 80 different locations. In them, we search for resources while watching out for the omnipresent zombies and gangs, as well as other groups of survivors. Among the latter, we find new factions with which we can establish relations. If we gain their respect (for example by completing tasks for them), we will get access to better equipment and special story missions. If we get on their bad side, however, we may end up antagonizing the faction, or even having a bounty put on our head, which significantly hinders the fun.
Regardless of the attitude towards particular factions, in a post-apocalyptic world full zombies we will have to fight to survive. Combat takes place in turn-based mode, inspired by the Final Fantasy and Darkest Dungeon series. The devs have made some improvements, enabling us to change our tactics during battles and adding new weapons and abilities. We can also use a cannon and trained dogs and tigers in our battles. All this helps to keep the survivors alive, which is important because the death of characters is permanent. Additional features borrowed from roguelike games are random events, which can significantly complicate the situation. Some help comes in the form of saving of our progress after losing the game. If your hero dies, we will be able to buy unlocked upgrades at once when we approach them again.
Game modes
Just like its predecessor, Dead Age 2 features a single player story mode that enables us to explore survivors' stories and reach one of several available endings.
Technical aspects
The visuals of Dead Age 2 consist mainly of realistic three-dimensional models of location (including the player's base), characters, animals and zombies.
