Dark Strokes: Sins of the Fathers is a proposal of Alawar Entertainment company addressed to the more demanding part of the audience from the so-called casual market (occasional players). The game was developed by Alawar Friday's Games, a New Siberian development studio known for such productions as Stray Souls: Dollhouse Story and The Treasures Of Montezuma 3.
Dark Strokes: Sins of the Fathers was set in the 19th century. The player plays the role of Ethan Black. A young man wants to introduce his chosen one, Claire, to his father. The couple travels to the hero's hometown. On the spot, it turns out that the settlement is in serious decline, and few inhabitants defend themselves against a group of kidnappers called Faceless Ones. To make matters worse, the girl is abducted. Following in its footsteps, the protagonist discovers that behind everything stands a mad old man who has been craving for revenge for decades.
During the game, the player has the opportunity to visit nearly 50 locations. Most of them offer tasks like searching for hidden objects in pictures. The game is enriched by logical puzzles in the form of mini-games. Developers took care of, among others, a system of hints that make it easier to deal with particular riddles.
Dark Strokes: Sins of the Fathers has an attractive visual layer. Two-dimensional graphics are based on handmade, detailed drawings. Simple animations and light effects enliven the image.
