Dark Earth: Vienna Calling is set in the near future, when, according to the Mayan prophecies, the world we know will end in 2012. The catastrophe begins with the news of the murdered French woman, who has returned to life. Soon afterwards, the world is panicking - the dead have come to life in the last thirty hours. However, it has nothing to do with a miracle, a quicker curse, because they lose their humanity and become thoughtless predators hunting the living, and in addition, those who get caught quickly join their tormentors. Groups of survivors set up small settlements - Whiteland, which try to protect them at all costs. Thousands of such places are scattered all over the world, and only some of them have contact with others.
