Dark Earth: Vienna Calling is a tactical shooter inspired by a paper roleplay of the same title. The script of the original was written by Samuel Miller - author of Himmlers Schoggothe and several macabre stories set in the world of fantasy. The game was prepared by Homegrown Games studio, known from Anderson & The Legacy of Cthulhu's horror adventure.
Dark Earth: Vienna Calling is set in the near future, when, according to the Mayan prophecies, the world we know will end in 2012. The catastrophe begins with the news of the murdered French woman, who has returned to life. Soon afterwards, the world is panicking - the dead have come to life in the last thirty hours. However, it has nothing to do with a miracle, a quicker curse, because they lose their humanity and become thoughtless predators hunting the living, and in addition, those who get caught quickly join their tormentors. Groups of survivors set up small settlements - Whiteland, which try to protect them at all costs. Thousands of such places are scattered all over the world, and only some of them have contact with others.
The game is presented from the perspective of the first person. We take control of Sergeant Henry Miller, a veteran of the Iraq war and one of the few who survived the Iranian attack on the United States in 2011. Our task is to rescue the survivors and defend one of the better armed, connected with the remains of the military base, Whiteland in Montana. In addition, we must discover how the Whiteland Oetscher, located somewhere far away in the Austrian Alps, despite its weaker armament, manages not only to maintain, but also to gradually expand its borders. To do this, we have to travel through a total of fourteen levels divided into three large chapters. To fight the plague of undead creators gave us a very diverse types of weapons, including white weapons.
