DARIUSBURST Chronicle Saviours is the richest installment of the DARIUS series. The production includes all content available in DARIUSBURST: Another Chronicle, as well as completely new gameplay modes, stages, or fighters that we control while playing.

Story

DARIUSBURST Chronicle Saviours takes place one hundred years after the events told in Darius II. The eponymous planet, Darius, is attacked by the Belser army. Aliens have nested in the seas and oceans around the globe. A new weapon, the so-called Burst System, is supposed to put a stop to endless battles. The weapons is given to Riga Pratica, the test pilot and a Ti2, i.e. artificial intelligence, which takes on the appearance of a young girl.

Mechanics

DARIUSBURST Chronicle Saviours draws in spades from the DARIUS series released in game arcades in the nineties. The action is therefore presented in a side perspective, and the game focuses on eliminating hordes of enemies. The game has been divided into stages, access to which will be unlocked as the adventure progresses. The player' needs to face both common mooks and powerful bosses, whose defeat requires not only the use of all available resources but also developing an appropriate strategy. While playing, various power-ups appear on the maps, which increase the fighter's attack strength and endurance, affect the number of points gained by the player, and can even immediately destroy all enemies visible on the screen.

The basic weapon in the fight, however, is a rocket launcher, to which, over time, a laser gun and a wave energy generator can be added. It is worth mentioning that opponents can also benefit from such improvements, which increases the level of difficulty as the game progresses. However, the player has the advantage of the "Burst System". It is a special weapon with a much greater attack power. However, its use is limited and access is renewed as more enemies are defeated. There are nine variants of fighters in the game, among which there is the iconic "Silver Hawk" from previous installments, as well as completely new models.

Game modes

The game includes several game modes. The mainstay is the Chronicle Saviours Mode, in which players can expect a story campaign consisting of more than two hundred stages. Its role is to tell the story of the conflict taking place on the planet Darius. In addition, we have access to Another Chronicle Mode, where several variants of fun await. The first one is Original, which reproduces the campaigns available in the arcade installments of the DARIUS series. Original EX, on the other hand, is a more difficult variation, posing an additional challenge for those familiar with the cycle.

Another feature is the Chronicle Mode, which consists of more than 3000 globally unlockable stages. Before the game starts, players are assigned to a specific office, whose members try to unlock as many levels as possible. After completing a specific mission, it is made available to other daredevils from all over the world.

Technical aspects

DARIUSBURST Chronicle Saviours on PC, PSV and PS4 is the prettiest installment of the series so far. Visuals present a good level so that the game can also appeal to people unfamiliar with the franchise. Interestingly, the PC version supports 32:9 aspect ratio displays.
