In each of the ten stages you must find a golden cup and then go to the exit marked by the door. While the task does not create major problems at first, the situation becomes more and more complicated later on. Cunningly placed platforms that are difficult to reach, lava and water traps, and creatures trying to kill Dave, don't make the task any easier. During the wandering through the successive levels of the pirate's hiding place we can collect additional treasures which increase the overall score. The player should be on guard all the time, because he has a limited number of "live", and it is not difficult to get a false move here.
At the beginning of the game Dave can only jump. In the following levels you will find useful items: a gun with unlimited ammunition, used to annihilate inhabited underground creatures, and a jet backpack with a small amount of fuel, through which you can get to the corridors that are not normally available.
The game was designed by John Romero, later co-founder of id Software, who in the early nineties was associated with the SoftDisk studio. The protagonist was so fond of the famous programmer that he decided to prepare further versions of Dave's adventures. It's worth mentioning that this is one of the few PC titles of the time that allowed you to freely change graphics modes (CGA/EGA/VGA) during gameplay.
