A graphically refreshed single player campaign from the original Crysis 2, a first person shooter released in 2011 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. The game was developed by the creators of the series, Crytek Studio.
Plot
The story in the game has not been changed in comparison to the original version. The action takes place in New York three years after the events of the first part. Aliens from the island of Lingshan have awoken their fellows in many parts of the globe, turning much of the world into a battlefield. While cities such as Rio de Janeiro, London and Tokyo have been turned into ruins, American soldiers continue to resist the invaders in the Big Apple.
The main protagonist of the game is Alcatraz, a marine whose unit has been mostly wiped out by aliens. The Prophet, known from the previous part, equipped him with a nanosuit, thus saving his life and giving him superhuman combat capabilities. Led by Dr. Gould, he must fight off the alien forces while dealing with C.E.L.L. mercenaries who want the suit back.
Mechanics
The game provides two ways to pass levels: forcibly and silently. This is due to the versatility of the suit, which can both bounce the bullets of enemies for a set period of time, and is equipped with an invisibility mode that allows us to sneak up on enemies unnoticed. Additionally, it allows us to lift heavy objects, move quickly or jump high. This creates a lot of possibilities when it comes to using the environment to our advantage, making fights with opponents easier.
We received a variety of weapons at our disposal. Basic weapons include pistols, rifles or shotguns, which can be equipped with special accessories, such as sights, silencers or bigger magazines. In case of additional equipment we have grenades, C4 charges or rocket launchers at our disposal. We replenish ammunition by collecting it from opponents' weapons or by finding special chests in the game world. There is also the possibility of tearing CKMs from their positions, to inflict massive damage to opponents for a short time with a very limited amount of shells. We collect special points from defeated aliens, allowing us to upgrade our suit, such as better armour or a longer camouflage mode.
Prior to entering the battlefield, it's a good idea to mark enemies and points of interest with the vision screen, which will constantly display special support markers during the action. In the darkness, in turn, we help ourselves with nanovision, showing us the temperature of objects in the environment. From time to time we will also get into vehicles, usually operating a cannon to fire at enemies.
Technical aspects
Already the original Crysis 2 was known for its beautiful graphics, and the Remastered version brings its visual aspects to an even higher level. High quality textures, more detailed models, refined environments, better lighting and support for higher resolutions are all included.
