Crusader Kings II: The Republic Description
Crusader Kings II: The Republic is a major expansion for one of the best strategy games of 2012, Crusader Kings II. It was developed by an in-house studio of Paradox Interactive. It requires the original Crusader Kings II to be installed in order to work.
In The Republic, we assume the role of a head of a merchant family instead of a feudal ruler. Our task is to bring our house to power in Hanseatic League as well as to take over such cities as Venice, Genoa, Pisa or Gotland. While in Crusader Kings II we mostly scheme, enter alliances and put our people on thrones, in The Republic everything mostly revolves around money, therefore we concentrate on controlling trade and merchant towns rather than building castles and taking over enemy lands.
In The Republic, both the user interface and economic aspect of the gameplay were significantly modified so as to better reflect the merchant nature of the game. The player gets access to his Family Palace that can be improved and developed. He may also build trading posts on coastal areas. Of course, these buildings may also be enhanced, which naturally makes them more effective and profitable. The title of doge is hereditary so when the time comes for our character to depart from this world, a new highest officer is elected in voting. Usually, head of the most powerful house is appointed, but we can always help ourselves by means of well-placed bribe. Even if we lose in the end, it doesn’t mean that the game is over. Instead, we will be focusing our efforts on regaining the position we lost.
