Crusader Kings II: The Old Gods Description
Crusader Kings II: The Old Gods for PC is the fourth major expansion pack for a successful strategy game which was released back in 2012. The expansion was created by an internal studio belonging to Paradox Interactive - the same team the base game was brought by.
Mechanics
In Crusader Kings II: The Old Gods for PC, the player can assume the role of either a Pagan or a Zoroastrian ruler. This time, the game begins in 867, and a special emphasis was placed on the culture of the vikings, as well as their plundering expeditions. Characters without demesne can gather armies and try to obtain territories using force now. Interestingly, one's very subordinates demand further conquests, thus when the player remains at peace with their neighbours for too long, the subordinates can even start a rebellion. When the ruler informs the public about an invasion the player is planning, crowds of volunteers begin to join the army. Then one has to attack in the right moment, for the longer the player waits, the risk of their impatient warriors starting a rebellion against them increases, though the army as such gets stronger and stronger. Furthermore, if the player decides to play as the Zoroastrian leader, their goal will be to restore Zoroastrianism to its former glory as well.
Crusader Kings II: The Old Gods introduces a set of other elements apart from that. Rebellions have become more convincing, for each is now led by a specific character with their own personality and motivations. An opportunity to perform sacrifices to gods was also added. The gameplay has become diversified with such events as berserker frenzies, cursings or foretellings; elements such as omens or runestones can be observed in the expansion as well. Regardless of which leader the player has chosen, their constant obligation will be to protect their people against alien messengers trying to convert them to Christianity or Islam.
