Crusader Kings II: Horse Lords

Crusader Kings II: Horse Lords is the ninth expansion for Crusader Kings II, a grand strategy game set in the middle ages. The add-on enriches the gameplay with two nomadic tribes of Mongols and Tatars, both of which had a huge influence on the shape of the medieval world.

Nomadic tribes introduced in Horse Lords require a huge space to live and have to constantly be on the move, for they do not establish permanent settlements. Managing the new factions involves applying adequate clan politics. We have to divide the large groups and force defeated chieftains to make a vow of blood, all to avoid fratricidal struggle. The game also allows the players to convene a horde, mobilizing a gigantic army of riders and archers in a rather short time.

The expansion introduces a reworked interface, over a hundred challenges, a map of Central Asia, possibility of building forts, as well as the system of tribute. We can force a conquered province to pay us, but it is not the only way to develop our units. Horse Lords also implements the Silk Road, an incredibly lucrative trade route that used to connect Europe, Asia and Middle East. Taking control over cities located nearby can prove to be very profitable for our tribes, although our enemies will surely get this idea as well.
