Crown Trick is a two-dimensional RPG belonging to the roguelike sub-genre. The game offers the opportunity to explore a vast, randomly-generated maze, full of various enemies and dangers. The title was developed and published by Next Studios (the devs of Unheard, Bladed Fury and Iris.Fall).
Mechanics
In Crown Trick we observe the action from top-down perspective. The game focuses on exploration of randomly generated levels (the game offers several different styles of locations, so we don't get bored too quickly), avoiding traps and fighting opponents (in the game we will find over a hundred types of enemies, including powerful, unique bosses). From time to time, we also come across special challenges, events and story elements that further enhance the gameplay.
The combat system is turn-based, where our and the opponent's actions take place simultaneously . The use of environments and special abilities of characters plays a key role in dealing with the challenges. The main protagonist possesses a crown, in which countless monsters are trapped. During the game, we can unleave various powers that are characteristic of a given beast.
It is also very important to exploit synergies between the elements (fire, earth, water, wind, ice, and poison) - by using them properly, we gain access to powerful combinations. The game offers thirty passive skills and twice as many spells.
As the game progresses, we also gain new weapons (swords, bows, muskets, and magic staffs), equipment and tools.
Game modes
Crown Trick can be played only solo. The mainstay of the game is the single-player mode.
Technical aspects
Crown Trick features nice two-dimensional visuals, which is based on hand-made drawings. The models of characters and heroes are nice and well animated, and the occasional illustrations used to tell the story of the game are characterized by high level of detail. The whole thing is kept in a style that brings to mind associations with animated films.
