Corsairs Legacy

Mechanics

Corsairs Legacy is an open-world third-person game set in the Caribbean, which we can traverse on foot and on board a ship. We must develop our protagonist's skills, plunder other ships, cross swords with numerous enemies, search for treasure and visit taverns to gain intel and play dice with the regulars.

One of the most important parts of Corsairs Legacy is naval travel and combat. To control our ship, we must take the wind into account, its strength and direction affecting our speed and maneuverability. During battles we'll position ourselves towards the enemy, front or sideways. Depending on our tactics, we'll either use long-range cannonballs to destroy the enemy hull or grapeshot to dispatch the crew. Getting closer will let us board the enemy vessel.

When fighting directly, we'll wield various melee weapons, chaining light and heavy attacks into combos, block enemy blows and shoot fierce foes with our pistol. When backed into a corner, we'll need to heal ourselves by drinking potions. During each fight we must manage Rufus's stamina.

The game features dynamic weather and a day-night cycle, with visited islands teeming with various species of birds, land and sea animals.

Trivia

Originally, Corsairs Legacy was meant to star Jack Rackam, a historical pirate known as Calico Jack. He would've been much nobler than his historical counterpart, however. The approach to the open world was also changed - the game was originally meant to be divided into land and sea segments.
