Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient is an episodic Japanese horror in which we explore the dark corners of a hospital where zombies, ghosts and other monsters hide. The action of the game takes place after the events from the previous installment - Corpse Party: Blood Drive.
Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient is a horror adventure game by the Japanese studio Team GrisGris. The team consists of people responsible for the first part of the series. The action is shown from bird's eye view and it resembles games created in RPG Maker, despite the fact that it was possible to abandon two-dimensional graphics in favour of 3D. The game is full of brutal and bloody images, e.g. the body of a child thrown off a balcony, and thus intended for mature viewer. Corse Party 2: Dead Patient was distributed in an episodic model and the first episode was released on October 23, 2019.
Plot
The main character of the story is a typical Japanese high school student Ayame Itou, who wakes up from a coma in an abandoned dark hospital called Amare Patriarcha Crucis. However, he does not remember anything from his past, not even his own name, which he only learns from a recording he finds in the facility. He is trapped and discovers, as he explores the corners of a looted hospital, that it is full of other patients who have found themselves in a similar situation, as well as dangerous creatures like zombies and terrifying ghosts. Our task is to discover the mystery of the disturbing events that took place in the hospital and to escape the nightmare.
The action takes place five years after the events of the previous part of the series, Corpse Party: Blood Drive. Although this is a completely new chapter, it refers to its predecessor, which is an additional asset for the biggest fans of 5pb's game. In contrast to the previous installments, the game is divided into four episodes.
Mechanics
Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient is a classic adventure game that draws in spades from genres such as horror and visual novel. The game consists mainly of moving around the hospital area, solving puzzles, talking to other characters and making difficult choices. Ayame can also interact with various items and objects, i.e. when hiding in closets or distracting monsters lurking in the dark. What's more, the game features more arcade sections, such as boss battles and QTE sequences.
Technical aspects
The first Corpse Party games were characterized by two-dimensional graphics, but this time the attempt was made to move the game into the third dimention while retaining the characteristic bird's eye view. The visuals are neither too colorful nor too dark, and reflects the atmosphere well. The graphics are also quite simple, although the creators have modernized it accordingly, adding, among other things, dynamic lighting. The role of the composer was played by Mao Hamamoto, the author of the soundtrack to the previous installments.
