Convrgence PC

Convrgence is an FPS developed for virtual reality sets and solo play. The gameplay also takes inspirations from the so-called extraction shooters. The studio behind the creation of this game is Monkey With a Bomb, whose portfolio includes the game Paradox of Hope which is similar in genre and theme.

Plot

Convrgence takes us to the fictional Chernokamensk. At the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, an explosion occurred in the local laboratory, which released a huge amount of energy. Like Pripyat (and especially its version from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series), the city was surrounded by a closed exclusion zone.

Over time, rumors began to circulate about artifacts, treasures, as well as dangers in the form of mysterious anomalies and bandits, wild animals, and monsters inhabiting it. Adventurous and wealth-hungry daredevils began to try their luck and cross its boundaries. We play as one of them, who goes there accompanied by his faithful German Shepherd dog.

Mechanics

In Convrgence we watch the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). The driving force of the game are expeditions, during which we go to procedurally generated locations and traverse them in search of loot. By carefully exploring the exclusion zone, we ensure access to valuable items (led by artifacts), resources, and useful equipment.

Given that there are numerous threats in Chernokamensk and its surroundings, we must constantly be on guard. The game provides us with an arsenal that includes, pistols, machine guns, or sniper rifles. The dog can provide support in battles and attack enemies. In addition, the animal can help in searching for supplies. Although it is never safe in the zone, staying within its boundaries turns into a real struggle for survival only after dusk, when the most powerful enemies leave their hiding places.

If we want the expedition to be successful, we must reach the evacuation site in one piece. Otherwise we lose all collected items. Between missions, we return to our base, where we can sell the valuables we've found and take care of our equipment. The game allows us not only to purchase new equipment and upgrade what we already have, but also to independently assemble new parts for weapons and maintain them.

Game modes

Convrgence only allows to play alone. There is a way to compete with other players in the form of leaderboards, which allow us to show off our achievements to the whole world.

Technical aspects

Convrgence requires a VR headset to work. The game has a wide range of accessibility features, such as a sitting mode, various types of character movement and camera rotation, as well as controls adapted for left-handed people.
