Strike Force is the newest installment of Commandos – a popular tactical game series from Pyro Studios. This time, the developers decided to try another genre, and as a result, we’ve received a tactical action game seen from a first person perspective.

Mechanics

Once again, the action of the game takes place during World War II. The players assume control over three characters, known from the previous installments: Green Beret, Sniper, and Spy. Each character has his characteristic traits and abilities, and is specialized towards certain behavior, forcing a certain playstyle during each mission. For example, Spy will look to get an enemy uniform, allowing him to walk between enemy soldiers without causing a commotion, all while searching for an opportunity to accomplish his task. On the other hand, playing as Sniper means staying in cover and looking for a good nest – a lookout point that will allow us to snipe e.g. a German officer from a distance.

During the gameplay we need to cover a number of varied tasks: from kidnappings and blowing up important structures, up to contracted eliminations of German officials. The missions take place in three different countries: Soviet Union (Stalingrad), Norway, and France. The game is characteristic for the freedom the player has when attempting to complete his task. However, each decision has some effect on the enemy, and has to be planned beforehand, as enemy soldiers have a certain reaction to each suspicious situation, and often check if the area wasn’t infiltrated by some intruder (thanks to advanced AI algorithms).

Technical Aspects

Aside from an engaging singleplayer mode, Commandos: Strike Force has an advanced multiplayer module, offering multiplayer matches for up to 8 players (LAN or online sessions)

A series of tactical real-time strategy games, started by the 1998 released game Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines by the Spanish team Pyro Studios. Since then, the series has lived to see three main parts and one spin-off, behind which were the authors of the original, as well as a remastered version of the cult "two", created by the team of Yippee! Entertainment.
