The Armageddon Machine is another representative of the Commander Keen series produced by id Software, closing the two-part mini-series called Goodbye Galaxy! Although the game is officially recognized as the fifth installment of the adventures of an intrepid boy, in fact it was created only after the finalisation of work on the "six" - the only episode of the saga that was released in a box and was not distributed in the shareware system.
The plot of the game continues the plot of the fourth game, titled Secret of the Oracle. After rescuing the members of the Oracle Board, Billy Blaze was able to use the services of the latter to learn everything about Shikadi - the ruthless alien race that threatens the galaxy. In order to save the world from invaders, an eight-year-old boy must go on board the Omegamatic space station and destroy its core. However, before the rivals receive the final blow, the machines blocking access to the main lift shaft must first be deactivated.
The product was made in a style typical of the series. We start the competition on a board seen from the bird's eye view, which shows a large deck of Omegamatica. Here, too, we choose the stages, which are realized in the classic platform convention. The aim of the struggle at each level is to reach the exit or destroy the aforementioned device. On the way to success there is, of course, an army of opponents, represented mainly by robots and representatives of the Shikadi race.
The Armageddon Machine contains all the innovations that were introduced to the series in the fourth installment of the cycle (including the ability to enter rooms and the option to shoot from the energy gun in four different directions), is also visually enhanced. The only novelty is actually the magnetic cards that you need to get to some locations.
