War Room

Combat Mission: Shock Force 2 is the next instalment of a series of realistic strategy games developed since the turn of the 20th and 21st century. The series was created as a work of an independent Battlefront team and it was no different with this game.

Plot

After battles on the fields of the Second World War in Combat Mission: Final Blitzkrieg the creators take us to the fields of a hypothetical conflict between the Syrian army and NATO troops. So we get access to the equipment used in modern war.

Mechanics

Combat Mission: Shock Force 2 is an example of a strategy from the We-Go sub-genre, combining RTS with turn-based games. The title allows us to play like in classic real time strategies, or in a hybrid system, where we plan our actions in the next minute. In the second case, after giving the orders, the action takes place independently, and we can only observe the actions of our and hostile troops.

In line with the tradition of the series, Shock Force 2 focuses on extreme realism, which manifests itself, for example, in faithful reconstruction of the equipment of individual units. Individual soldiers are not only distinguished by their appearance. Artificial intelligence simulates the behavior, combat potential and mental state of each of them, which affects the efficiency of the entire unit. What's more, the developers have given up a common perspective for the whole army: a single soldier's perception of the enemy does not mean that it is visible to all all allies In this way Shock Force 2 simulates the flow of information on the real battlefield. These innovations are complemented by realistic, scientifically simulated systems of vehicle damage, missile penetration and armour resistance, and an asymmetric gameplay that maps the clash between NATO troops and the Syrian army (including spies, terrorists, irregular troops, etc.).

Game modes

The feature campaign is one of several attractions of Combat Mission: Shock Force 2. In addition, the developers have provided for the possibility of quick skirmishes and single scenarios. The single scenarios can be created in a special editor. The game also allows you to play with other players in hot chair mode or via e-mail (both local network and Internet).

Technical aspects

As in previous installments, the Combat Mission: Shock Force 2 offers a not very impressive, three-dimensional graphic design. The game clearly stands out from rival titles, although this allows game to run even on less powerful computers. In return, we receive a faithfully reproduced appearance of the troops (shown in 1:1 scale) and advanced systems responsible for reliable physics and ballistics.
