Combat Directive: Napoleonic Wars

Combat Directive: Napoleonic Wars is a real-time strategy inspired by classic war games, testing us in the role of generals of the Napoleonic era. This is the debut project of the Russian studio Fatice Games.

Historical realities

The action of Combat Directive: Napoleonic Wars takes place over seven years of the Napoleonic Wars, starting from the Prussian Eylau, and ending with the battles of 1814. The game allows us to choose a faction in six campaigns offering over 150 missions and recreates the authentic appearance and abilities of army regiments from the period. Apart from conducting tactical battles, we learn the history of each specific regiment by reading the characters' memories before the fight.

Gameplay

Combat Directive: Napoleonic Wars combines tactical RTS gameplay, where the positioning of infantry, cavalry or artillery and the battlefield play an important role, with elements from turn-based games, such as movement on a hexagonal grid. Thanks to this, reflex is not the key element. Strategic planning of attacks is more important.

Before going into battle, we can analyze the battlefield. To gain an advantage, we use historical formations such as squares, columns or lines of tirailleurs, and the variability of the situation requires us to modify our units.

The authors of Combat Directive: Napoleonic Wars wanted to minimize the randomness of the gameplay, making it similar to traditional tabletop war games. This last element is reminded by the fact that skirmishes take place on the table.

Graphics

Combat Directive: Napoleonic Wars runs on the Unity engine and has visuals reminiscent of games from the first decade of the 21st century.
